[soprano, alto, tenor, baritone, bass].

Highlights from past seasons include recording and performing with local artists including Luke Wallace and Laura Reznek, performances at the Vancouver Art Gallery, and touring interior BC. In 2025, Kôr travelled to Powell River, BC, for the 20th International Choral qÌ“at̓ᶿaymÉ©xÊ·, achieving second place wins in the Adult Mixed Voice and Chamber Choir competitions, a first place win in the Contemporary Choral Music competition, and the Elmer Iseler Award for best performance of a Canadian work.

GRACENOTE

Gracenote is an auditioned a cappella treble choir [soprano, alto].

Founded in 2015, Gracenote's first performance took place in a Vancouver yoga studio where the 35 audience members took off their shoes and sat on the floor. Since then, Gracenote has evolved into the current ensemble of ~24 voices. Highlights from past seasons include a showcase concert at the Canadian Rocky Mountain Festival, performances at several Sofar Vancouver events, touring interior BC, and collaborations with Ashleigh Ball of Vancouver's Hey Ocean! In our 10th anniversary season Gracenote was thrilled to be invited to the KALEID festival in Victoria, and to collaborate with the Vancouver Youth Choir, Corazon and Lalin from Nelson, BC, and Korora and Oran from Edmonton, Alberta.

Gracenote rehearses Tuesday evenings from 7-9pm, in Vancouver’s Fairview neighbourhood.

Leadership Team

Danica Kell, Musical Director

Danica has been singing in choirs for the better part of 3 decades, and is probably the biggest choir nerd you’ll ever meet. Foundational choral experiences include performing at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London with the Surrey Children’s Choir, at the Palau de la Musica Catala in Barcelona as part of the 2017 World Symposium on Choral Music with Elektra, and on the main stage of the Kispiox Valley Music Festival with Concordiae Chorus, as a precocious 16-year-old. Danica is proud to have been part of several award-winning choral performances, with accolades from the CBC National Choral Competition, the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod, and Powell River’s International Choral Kathaumixw to her name. Leading her best buds in song twice a week is a literal dream come true.

Gillian grew up singing in Corazon Vocal Ensemble in Nelson, BC, where her love of choir first took root. A trained jeweler with a background in jewelry design, Gillian brings a unique creative eye to everything she touches. As a founding member of the Gracenote leadership team, she blends artistic vision with deep community care—shaping everything from outfit palettes to social media presence. With decades of choral experience and heartfelt dedication, Gillian helps make Gracenote and Kôr not only sound beautiful, but look and feel beautiful too.

Our History

Gracenote Vancouver was founded in 2015 by Malaika Horswill, Laura Metcalfe, and Gillian Lippert, three friends who had grown up together performing in choirs, piano recitals, and musical theatre productions. When they found themselves reunited in Vancouver, all pining for that musical community, Gracenote was born.  Rehearsals began with 10 singers gathered in an East Vancouver living room, and 10 pairs of Blundstones lined up at the door. In 2018, Kôr, our mixed-voice eNsemble, joined the family, and in 2021, Danica Kell, a long-time Gracenote singer, and Laura Metcalfe stepped into the roles of Musical Directors. Gracenote Vancouver celebrated their 10th anniversary season in 2025 and became an incorporated Non-Profit Society. The 25/26 season brings an exciting new era with Danica Kell as the Musical Director of both ensembles.

Our mission is...

to band together as a supportive and gratifying collective, to cultivate our choirs and grow together in the pursuit of artistic exploration and innovation, and to make beautiful music.

About our community...

Gracenote Vancouver acknowledges that we live, work, rehearse and perform on the unceded, ancestral, and traditional territory of the xÊ·mÉ™θkwÉ™y̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and SÉ™lÌ“ílwÉ™taÊ”/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.

Gracenote Vancouver values and celebrates the diverse identities of all our singers. We are committed to fostering and maintaining a culture of inclusion and connectedness. We welcome the unique contributions that all singers bring in terms of their culture, race, religion, age, gender identity, sexuality, ability, nationality and language.

We perform at accessible venues and provide gender neutral washrooms. We are always open to hearing about your experiences at our shows and how we can create more inclusive spaces for all and be better members of our community.
